Church History

South Middleburg Baptist Church is the direct result of one man’s obedience to God. Reverend Calvin Childers and his wife Sue set about to answer God’s call to plant an Independent Baptist Church in the Middleburg area. The church originally met in the Middleburg Civic Center with full intentions of finding a permanent home in which to worship God. With help from the Florida Bible Baptist Fellowship and Reverend Richard Edwards and the good people from First Coast Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida, South Middleburg Baptist Church was off and running.

The Childers: Brother Calvin and Sister Sue – true church pioneers!

Here are some pictures of the modular buildings being placed on our property at 4561 Alligator Boulevard, Middleburg, Florida.

Seeing God work to secure this property and these buildings for worship made for a lot of thankful people!

The crosses seen on the sides of these buildings were made and placed by one of the charter members of South Middleburg Baptist Church, Tom Kirk. His dedication and love for God were a true inspiration to many people through those first years of growth.

After much prayer and careful deliberation, Bro. Calvin Childers and Bro. Delton Kilpatrick met with the Deacons and Trustees of South Middleburg Baptist Church to discuss a new worship center. The decision? A unanimous approval to move forward with a 7200 square foot auditorium/office complex.

Progress!!! The foundation is poured for a new worship center.

It’s all coming together!

Everyone has a place for service at SMBC – even the very young!

God has richly blessed us with our new auditorium and we never cease to thank Him for his graciousness on our behalf. Please take a moment to visit Our Facility and view some of the photos of the interior of SMBC.

On March 5, 2019, after much prayer, planning, waiting and anticipation, our steeple was delivered and installed. What a tremendous blessing for our church!
